A client in St Albans contacted us regarding their aging bay window roof, which had deteriorated significantly over its 25-year lifespan. The existing covering was showing extensive signs of wear, with moss accumulation and degradation causing water to pool and potentially compromise the structure below. Upon inspection, we found that the original timber substrate had begun to rot in several areas due to prolonged moisture exposure.
Our solution involved completely stripping the old roof covering and replacing the damaged timber decking. We installed a new 18mm OSB deck, followed by a Sikaplan PVC single-ply membrane system. The installation included:
- A vapor control layer to prevent condensation
- High-performance rigid insulation to improve thermal efficiency
- New lead flashings where the roof meets the main house wall
- Improved falls to ensure proper drainage
